To determine which eCommerce solution you are on, see How do I know if I am using Native eCommerce or Third Party eCommerce?

Categories and subcategories allow you to structure your products in a way that helps shoppers find what they are looking for more quickly.

Note

The native store supports up to 150 categories and 10 levels of subcategories.

Create Category or Subcategory

To create a category or subcategory:

  1. In the side panel, click Sell Online.

  2. Click Store Management, then click Manage categories.

  3. Click Create a new category.

  4. Use the drop down menu to select either A new category or A new subcategory.

  5. (Optional) If you selected A new subcategory in the previous step, you need to select which category the subcategory exists under.

  6. Enter a category name. The title appears in the Product gallery widget, if you configure it to display.

  7. Enter a category description. You can click the sparkle icon () to use the AI Assistant to edit your description.

  8. Use the Category products drop down menu to select which products belong in the category or subcategory. If you need to remove a product from the category, click the three horizontal dots () icon and click Remove product from category, then click Remove Product.

    Note

A product can be assigned to more than one category or subcategory.

  9. In the Media section, click to upload an image. You can select a site image or upload a new image from your computer. After selecting your image, click Done. This image appears in the Product Gallery widget and on the category page.

  10. Click Save.

Reorder Categories or Subcategories

Reordering categories changes the order in which they are displayed in the Product Gallery widget. You cannot move a subcategory from one category to another, you can only reorder subcategories within the same category.

To reorder categories or subcategories:

  1. In the side panel, click Sell Online.

  2. Click Store Management, then click Manage categories

  3. Hover over the desired category and click and drag the six dot icon () until the category is in the desired spot.

Delete Category or Subcategory

If you delete a subcategory, the products in that subcategory will be moved into the subcategory or category one level above it.

Warning

Deleting a category or subcategory cannot be undone.

To delete a category:

  1. In the side panel, click Sell Online.

  2. Click Store Management, then click Manage categories

  3. Click the three horizontal dots () icon next to the category you need to delete, then click Delete category. Or, if you are deleting a subcategory, click the chevron () icon to expand the category and display the subcategories within it. Click the three horizontal dots (

) icon, then click Delete category.

  4. In the pop-up, click Delete category.

Category Page

When your store is created, a category page with two Product Gallery widgets with pre-configured filters are created by default. One Product Gallery widget displays category products and the other displays subcategories. You can adjust the filters on these two Product Gallery widgets as necessary, or you can remove them.

Warning

Before making edits to the Category page it is recommended to make a backup of the site.

Deleting or altering any of the default Product Gallerywidgets could compromise the functionality of the category page.

To access the Category page:

  • In the side panel, click Sell Online, then click Store Pages.

  • Click Category page.

Note

Placeholder categories and products may appear in the editor. These placeholders should not appear on the preview or live site.

If the store doesn't have categories, the category page will not be accessible to edit.

Manage Categories in the Navigation

Categories can be listed (as sub-pages or in the main navigation) or set to not show in the navigation.

Note

The navigation widget needs to be using the Site pages option. Categories will not be automatically listed when using Custom links option (see Navigation and Sub-Navigation Links for more information on these options).

To manage categories in the navigation:

  1. In the side panel, click Sell Online.

  2. Click Store Pages.

  3. Click the gear icon next to Category page (if the store does not currently have categories, the page will be disabled).

  4. Click Show or Hide from Navigation.

  5. Select the desired settings from the dropdown lists.

  6. Select Save.

Configure Product Gallery widget

If you need, you can add the Product Gallery widgets to any non-dynamic page. You can also add multiple Product Gallery widgets to a page and use different filters on each widget to display different products.

To configure the Product Gallery widget:

  1. Click the Product Gallery widget to open the context menu.

  2. If the Product Gallery widget is placed on a dynamic category page, select one of the following options:

    • Show different content per category. The content of the gallery dynamically updates based on the category page the gallery is on. If this option is selected, the gallery can either display products or subcategories.

    • Show the same content on every page. The content displayed in the gallery is the same no matter which category page the gallery is on. If this option is selected, the gallery can display all products, all categories, or a specific category..

  3. If the Product Gallery widget is placed on a regular page, like the shop homepage, use the What should be displayed in the gallery? drop down menu to select what you want the Product Gallery widget to display.

  4. (Optional) If you selected a category in the previous step, use the Display on gallery drop down menu to select whether to display the products within the category or the subcategories.

  5. Depending on what you choose to display in the Product Gallery widget, you will have a variety of toggles to enable. Enable them as necessary.
